Zumtobel is a world-leading manufacturer and supplier of integral lighting solutions for various markets and applications. The firm commissioned a Design Workshop to develop a new light for the retail market.

 Billings Jackson organised a series of talent-diverse workshops to allow for a very detailed dialogue and exploration of the retail market; product development and technical opportunities; and product sales criteria.

The design concept was to create a ‘skylight' – a dynamic module of light and colour as infinite in its range as the sky itself. The brief recognised that this should be extremely simple to install and maintain to differentiate it from other luminous surfaces on the market.

The resulting shallow profile units of the Cielos range are elegant and sophisticated and with coloured light and video-compatible LED models now available, the creative scope is limitless.

Cielos can be used in a range of applications from harmonious backdrop to dynamic light show. Particularly suited to the high-quality retail market, it replaces expensive custom-designed installations and enables designers and end-users to customise an environment with ease. Thanks to the accelerated brief development of the Design Workshop process, Zumtobel was able to bring this successful, award-winning product quickly to market.
