A prototype of the BedPod concept designed by Billings Jackson Design and Nightingale Associates with SAS International was launched at the Design Council in London on 23 March.
The BedPod is one of six product and service innovations awarded a development grant under the ‘Design for Patient Dignity’ programme run by the Design Council and the UK Government’s Department of Health.
It is a prefabricated, high-quality modular product that can be rapidly installed with minimum disturbance and minimum loss of beds, offering hospital Trusts more control and flexibility to release space within their estate. It is a flexible solution that can be utilised as a temporary or permanent measure in hospitals, creating a private space - even within a multi-bed ward environment.
The product aims to return control of one’s personal environment to the patient, with an integrated modesty screen, a distinctive curved form providing acoustic attenuation and a number of integrated lighting solutions allow general room lighting to be reduced to promote rest.
