This commission called for a rethink on the traditional room control panel, with the onus on aesthetics and the freedom to use high quality materials.
The result is an intelligent, simple and elegant product that has the ability to monitor and control every electrical operation from a single point and responds to the increasing demands placed on electrical installations within the built environment.
The team chose aluminium because it is practical, durable and the brushed surface has a tactility that cannot be matched by many other materials. It presented a real challenge for the engineers at Merten, who were used to working with injection-moulded components. Extruded aluminium parts can be difficult to fit together and so each part had to be carefully considered to ensure a tight fit.
The switches that line the edge of the glass display present a definite response to touch for the user. It’s a simple aspect of the design but very important to the overall perception of the product. The glass itself is held by end caps and cushioned with dry silicone to allow the user to change the information behind it, making Plantec a flexible solution for any environment.
Plantec is elegance and simplicity combined with intricate engineering. It defines a new standard among everyday objects of this kind.
