MTA Station Improvement Long Island Rail Road

Billings Jackson was sub-contracted to Citnalta-Scalamandre JV design-build contractors responsible for delivering six stations – Baldwin, Bayside, Brentwood, Deer Park, East Hampton and Farmingdale within the LIRR Modernization Program: a multi-billion dollar investment in the regional transportation infrastructure that aims to foster Long Island’s economic growth for generations to come. This comprehensive program to reconstruct and improve the LIRR system is moving forward with planning, design and construction. These projects range from large system expansion efforts, to improvements to existing infrastructure, such as substation replacements and station enhancements. Collectively, these projects will work together to improve the overall LIRR system efficiency and reliability.

Billings Jackson designed various station amenities aimed at improving the customer experience. New information totems with dynamic real-time information are installed at each station entrance to help customers make informed decisions prior to entering the system. New benches and counters with integrated USB charging ports have been included in the waiting areas, as well as new LCD information displays. Shelter sheds and ticket vending machine sheds are currently being designed and will build on station improvements to help bring the stations into the 21st century.
