MTA Station Improvement Project Package 2

The station improvement program (formerly the Enhanced Station Initiative) is the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s $72 million modernization project to improve more than 30 subway stations throughout New York.

Package 2 comprises the elevated stations 30 Street and 36 Street along the Astoria line in Queens. Billings Jackson was industrial design subcontractor to Skanska and Aecom, responsible for the detailed design of station entrance canopies, totems, integrated lighting wireways, benches, lean bars, trash receptacles, and platform dashboards. The updates enhance the transit experience with new technological features alongside artworks commissioned by MTA Arts & Design featuring works by Stephen Westfall and Maureen McQuillan.
